The ONEBOOKAZ Goes Digital writing competition is open to authors residing in Arizona as of November 30, 2013 entry deadline. Employees of the Arizona State Library are not eligible to participate. By participating in this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and by the decisions of the Arizona State Library, whose decisions are final in all matters relating to this competition. Author’s submission of their work and entry form is the entrant’s guarantee that they are the sole author and copyright holder of the content. Please submit only one entry per person. All ages are welcome to enter. Parents of children 17 years of age and younger will need to enter on their behalf. If the work is a collaborative project with more than one contributor such as co-authors or an author and illustrator, the contributing collaborators will share the honor as designated ONEBOOKAZ authors.Categories
ONEBOOKAZ for Kids: Illustrated picture book or beginning chapter book that would appeal to children between the ages of 3-12.
ONEBOOKAZ for Teens: Literature that would appeal to the age group including 12 -18 year olds.
ONEBOOKAZ for Adults: Literature that would appeal to a general adult readership of 18 and upSubmitting Your Work
Completely fill out all required data fields on the registration form and upload your submission. All entries are to be submitted electronically at www.ONEBOOKAZ.org. Accepted file types: pdf, doc, ePUB or rtf (size limit: 50mb.) Maximum length is 60,000 words.
All entries must be appropriate for posting on Arizona State Library’s website. Obscene, inappropriate or otherwise questionable content will not be considered. The Arizona State Library retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.Selection
Starting on or about January 2, 2014, a panel of judges will review all eligible submissions based on qual-ity, creativity, originality, style and grammar. The designated ONEBOOKAZ authors will be determined by the judges with the final decision by the Arizona State Library. All decisions will be final.Privileges
One featured author from each category will be selected to be a designated ONEBOOKAZ author and their submissions will be featured in the statewide ONEBOOKAZ community read program, sponsored by the Arizona enter for the Book. The author’s work will be made available to all Arizonans as a digi-tal download, free and without compensation to the author.Promotion of the 2014 ONEBOOKAZ
The ONEBOOKAZ featured author from each category will need to be available to assist in the promotion of the ONEBOOKAZ program through scheduled author visits and/or by participating in other relevant library sponsored events. An honorarium will be paid for participation in said visits and events. The designated ONEBOOKAZ author from each category will be required to sign all necessary legal documents provided by the Arizona State Library agreeing to the terms set forth. The Arizona State Library agrees to not profit from or release entrants’ content to others besides those necessary to complete the competition (i.e. judges, staff of the Arizona State Library.) The Arizona State Library will discontinue digital access of designated ONEBOOKAZ author’s content as of June 1, 2014 but will retain the right to use material for the ONEBOOKAZ promotion until December 2014.Responsibility
Arrangements for the fulfillment of being a designated ONEBOOKAZ author as set forth include; appearances and promotion of the ONEBOOKAZ program which will be arranged by the Arizona State Library. The designated ONEBOOKAZ authors are required to comply with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. All expenses, including taxes, on receipt and use of honorarium are the sole responsibility of the featured authors. All honorariums are non-transferable. The designated ONEBOOKAZ authors must agree to sign necessary documentation permitting free use by the Arizona State Library and public access to digital downloads for the duration of the 2014 ONEBOOKAZ program.Legal Stuff
Entrants agree to submit under the following terms and conditions: (i) that the Arizona State Library may use any ideas, concepts, material, in whole or in part, contained in an entry; (ii) that all materials submitted are free from any lien or claim by anyone; (iii) Entrants have obtained all rights, permissions and licenses necessary to use the entries for any purpose; (iv) that no entry or any part thereof infringes any trademark or copyright or otherwise violates anyone’s right of privacy or publicity; and (v) Entrants indemnify and hold harmless the State of Arizona or the Arizona State Library from any claims, suits, losses, damages and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) that arise.Even More Legalese
All interpretations of the rules and decisions by the Arizona State Library are final. The Arizona State Library reserves the right, in their sole and unequivocal discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds or believes to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the website, or to be acting in violation of the official rules.Disclaimers
The Arizona State Library is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions that occur on account of entering this competition. If, for any reason, the competition is not capable of running as planned, the Arizona State Library reserves the right in their sole and unequivocal discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, delay or suspend the competition. Entries which have been tampered with or altered are void. Only those selected as the designated ONEBOOKAZ authors will be notified. The featured authors will be posted on our website www.ONEBOOKAZ.org. We have no control over the downloaded digital content but will delete all non-selected entries.Timeline
