The Goals of ONEBOOKAZ are:
- To celebrate literature
- To foster a sense of community
- To support Arizona authors
- To enhance digital literacy skills
The ONEBOOKAZ writing competition is open to authors residing in Arizona as of the October 14, 2014 entry deadline. Employees of the Arizona State Library are not eligible to participate. By participating in this competition, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and by the decisions of the Arizona State Library, whose decisions are final in all matters relating to this competition. Author’s submission is the author’s guarantee that they are the sole author and copyright holder of the content. Only one entry per person.Contest Categories
ONEBOOKAZ for Kids: Illustrated picture book or beginning chapter book that would appeal to children between the ages of 3-12.
ONEBOOKAZ for Teens: Literature that would appeal to the age group including 12-18 years of age.
ONEBOOKAZ for Adults: Literature that would appeal to a general adult readership of 18 and older.How To Enter
Beginning October 1, 2014 submissions will be accepted at www.onebookaz.org.

All entries must be appropriate for posting on the www.readingarizona.org website. Obscene, inappropriate or otherwise questionable content will not be considered. The Arizona State Library retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.
Contributing collaborators such as illustrators or compilers will need to assign the copyrights to the submitting author. The assignment and work for hire must be in a written contract signed and dated before submitting manuscript to www.onebookaz.org and is the sole responsibility of the submitting author.Selection
A panel of judges will review all eligible submissions based on quality, creativity, originality, style, and grammar. The winning ONEBOOKAZ eBooks will be determined by the judges with the final decision by the Arizona State Library. All decisions will be final.General Principles for Selection:
- Author resides in Arizona
- Relevance to community needs and interests
- Deep and diverse viewpoints
- Enduring value
Items generally not considered for selection include but are not limited to:
- Self-help books
- Promotional materials for specific individuals or groups, e.g. religion, ideologies, businesses, services
- Pornographic or offensive materials
- School textbooks
- Illegal or infringing content
- Collections of short stories, novellas or serial novels
Selected authors from all submitted entries may be contacted to include a copy of their work in the Emerging Arizona Authors collection on the www.readingarizona.org online platform. The Arizona State Library will negotiate with the authors to determine permissions and digital rights management.Privileges
One selected author from each category will be designated as a ONEBOOKAZ author. The author’s work will be made available to all Arizonans as a digital download, free and without compensation from March 1, 2015 to June 1, 2015.
The ONEBOOKAZ selected author from each category will need to be available to assist in the promotion of the ONEBOOKAZ program through scheduled author visits and/or by participating in other relevant library sponsored events. An honorarium will be paid as compensation for participation in said visits and events. This will be negotiated directly with the selected authors.Responsibility
The designated ONEBOOKAZ author from each category will be required to sign all necessary legal documents provided by the Arizona State Library agreeing to the terms set forth. Arrangements for the fulfillment of being a designated ONEBOOKAZ author as set forth include; appearances and promotion of the ONEBOOKAZ program which will be arranged by the Arizona State Library. All honorariums are non-transferable. Upon receipt of any part of the honorarium, the designated ONEBOOKAZ authors are required to comply with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. All expenses, including taxes, on receipt and use of honorarium are the sole responsibility of the selected authors. The Arizona State Library agrees to not profit from or release non-selected entrants’ content to others besides those necessary to complete the competition (i.e. judges, staff of the Arizona State Library) and furthermore the Arizona State Library will relinquish all rights to works not selected as the 2015 ONEBOOKAZ winning eBooks after June 1, 2015, unless specific permission from the author has been granted.Legal Necessities
Authors hereby agree to submit their entries under the following terms and conditions: (i) that the author hereby grants to Arizona State Library royalty-free, non-exclusive rights to receive, store, use, download, upload and transmit their work in tangible and electronic formats for the period October 1, 2014 through June 1, 2015; (ii) that all materials submitted are free from any lien or claim by anyone; (iii) that entrants have obtained all rights, permissions and licenses necessary to use the entries for any purpose; (iv) that no entry or any part thereof infringes any trademark or copyright or otherwise violates anyone’s right of privacy or publicity; (v) that entrants indemnify and hold harmless the State of Arizona and the Arizona State Library from any claims, suits, losses, damages and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) that arise from any breach of the conditions set forth in the official rules; and (vi) they further agree, if chosen as a designated ONEBOOKAZ author, to grant to the Arizona State Library, a royalty-free, non-exclusive right to title and interest in all material and agree t sign such documentation as is necessary to formalize this assignment for the ONEBOOKAZ program for the time period of October 1, 2014 to June 1, 2015.Disclaimers
The Arizona State Library is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions that occur on account of entering this competition. If, for any reason, the competition cannot be run as planned, the Arizona State Library reserves the right in their sole and unequivocal discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, delay or suspend the competition.
All interpretations of the rules and decisions by the Arizona State Library are final. Entries which have been tampered with or altered are void. The Arizona State Library reserves the right, in their sole and unequivocal discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds or believes to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the website, or to be acting in violation of the official rules.
