What is ONEBOOKAZ for Kids?
Brought to Arizona in 2002, and coordinated by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, ONEBOOKAZ for Kids is an exciting program that brings communities together through literature. Beginning in April every year, this program encourages Arizona children around the state to read the same book at the same time and participate in discussions and programs centered around that book. The goals of ONEBOOKAZ for Kids are:
- To celebrate literature in the State of Arizona by encouraging the reading and exploration of a book.
- To foster a sense of community through the shared experience of reading the same book, discussing themes and involving children in the statewide events connected with the book.
- To bring children together through public programs such as book discussions, author readings and signing events, panel discussions, traveling presentations, and special events.
- To nurture partnerships between libraries, schools, museums, other allied institutions, the media, commercial vendors, the authors and the public.
An exciting new goal has been added to help Arizona kids read their way to the upcoming State Centennial. Beginning in 2007 and continuing through 2012, all the ONEBOOKS for adults and kids will center on Arizona topics and themes. As Arizona prepares for its Centennial in 2012, ONEBOOKAZ provides an opportunity for its citizens:
- To come together to read and discuss books that will increase their knowledge and appreciation of Arizona's unique history and culture.
